Frequently Asked Questions
REGEN is a student-led environmental initiative based in Taiwan, focused on reducing disposable tableware use through education, technology, and community action. We believe small daily choices , like skipping the plastic fork , compound into real ecological and health impact.
REGEN brings together students, educators, and local communities to build awareness and drive measurable behavioral change , one reusable cup at a time.
- Education , Workshops, video content, online resources, and school partnerships that uncover the hidden health risks and environmental costs of disposable tableware.
- App (in development) , A mobile app that helps users track eco-friendly habits, log daily waste, join community challenges, and discover sustainable alternatives nearby.
- Community Service , Hands-on initiatives including recycling drives, neighborhood clean-ups, and public awareness campaigns that turn learning into lasting action.
REGEN's work is directly aligned with five UN Sustainable Development Goals:
- SDG 3: Raising awareness about microplastic ingestion and chemical leaching from heated disposables.
- SDG 4: Building sustainability literacy through workshops, digital content, and school programs.
- SDG 11: Driving community-level environmental action across Taiwan.
- SDG 12: Encouraging the everyday shift from single-use to reusable alternatives.
- SDG 14: Reducing the plastic waste that enters oceans and harms marine ecosystems.
Disposable tableware is one of the most pervasive , yet overlooked , sources of environmental and health harm. Taiwan alone generates over 59,000 tons of tableware waste annually, and items like paper cups are lined with plastic coatings that release microplastics when heated.
We target this area because it's deeply embedded in everyday behavior, which makes it both high-impact and genuinely changeable through education, habit-building, and better alternatives.
The REGEN app is currently in active development for Android (built with Kotlin). An early APK build is available for download on our App page for those who want to try it ahead of the full release.
The full version will include smart waste tracking, a personal impact calculator, eco-challenges, and a rewards system. Stay tuned for launch updates!
